Benefits
10 Good Reasons to Build a Cal-PASS Consortium:
  1. Improve Student Outcomes. Cal-PASS tracks the crucial information that can equip educators to help students succeed at each stage of their educational path. The result is students who are well prepared for their next level of classes because they are building on a stronger foundation.
  2. Improve Preparation and Instruction. Feedback about students' performance provides insight into their overall level of preparation. This in turn may lead to adjustments in instructional programs that promote better-prepared students.
  3. Empower Faculty. Cal-PASS brings faculty together in ways that benefit both students and instructors. Faculty members gain a handle on how their students are doing at a higher level of education. High school and community college faculty can identify and align courses in order to better prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions. Students who are better prepared to succeed contribute to a more satisfying and productive classroom experience for everyone.
  4. Improve Articulation. Elementary, middle, high school, community college and university faculty work closely to ensure that courses articulate with a smooth transition from lower-division course work to upper-division course work. This substantially increases the number of articulation agreements and facilitates the process.
  5. Increase Communication between Systems. Motivated by the multiple benefits of data sharing through Cal-PASS, high schools, community colleges and four-year institutions are communicating more consistently and achieving powerful results.
  6. Support 2+2 Systemic Changes. The increased communication between high schools and community colleges improves the effectiveness of 2+2 programs such as Tech Prep.
  7. Strengthen Forecasting. Cal-PASS provides a more complete picture of transfer students as well as emerging regional educational needs.
  8. Improve Statewide Accountability. The information obtained through Cal-PASS can help reduce barriers between educational systems, transform instructional processes, and reform education.
  9. Build Stronger Educational Communities. Cal-PASS can bring once-disparate entities together for the common goal of improving education.
  10. Benefit Regional Education. As the positive impact of Cal-PASS grows, it expands to larger segments of the educational community, thus helping to span local K-16 projects and educational reform at the local community level.
